The Armorial Crest shown on the chair backs , a demi - bear Sable muzzled Or and the motto " Festina Lente` " are believed to be those of the Barnard family of Beverley Yorkshire  . It seems likely the chairs demonstrate an early use of  the Barnard  Crest by Leuyns Boldero  Barnard following his inheritance of the estate of his great uncle Henry Barnard of Beverley. The estate inherited in 1769-1770 by L Boldero was at East Hall in Beverley - the house re-modelled in the late 18th century when it was re-designed in the late Gothick taste and renamed Cave Castle .
